Our February symposium examines the French obsession for Italian music in the twilight of the Sun King, Louis XIV. The virtuoso sonatas and cantatas imported from across the Alps had so overwhelmed concert programs that they caused one exasperated Frenchman to exclaim “Sonate, que me veux tu?”
