We open the season with Bach’s collegium, where the cantor for the town of Leipzig took his civic duties outside of the church and into the biergarten and kaffeehaus. In this atmosphere of Gemütlichkeit (a space or state of warmth, friendliness, and good cheer), Bach brought together the music of the most fashionable composers of the day in the same cosmopolitan spirit that marks his own works.
